TANJUNG MANIS, Feb 17 - Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sr (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg officially inaugurated the RM974.1 million Tanjung Manis water supply project today, marking a significant milestone in strengthening the area’s water infrastructure.
Abang Johari emphasized the project's resilience by directing the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication to install water pipelines across bridges at seven strategic locations.
Concerned about potential disruptions due to geological factors, he remarked, "If there is a tremor in the ground tomorrow, the pipelines will be affected resulting in water disruption."
He underscored the importance of practical solutions, stating, "We use common sense. If you don’t have enough money, GPS government is willing to assist,” he said.
Expressing commitment to public welfare, he assured, "The fund is my responsibility, as long as the people can benefit."
Congratulating the residents of Tanjung Manis on the project's completion, Abang Johari affirmed the Sarawak government's dedication to providing essential infrastructure, including water and electricity, in rural areas.
He highlighted the shift in funding approach, prioritizing Sarawak's resources for effective project execution.
Abang Johari stressed the need for adequate allocation in project planning to prevent delays. He instructed the Ministry to enhance water distribution, ensuring connectivity to all longhouses up to Sibu, despite acknowledging the associated costs.
